BOSTON INTERNATIONAL THANKSGIVING CONFERENCE

November 24 - 28, 2010

This event is held over the Thanksgiving holidays (Nov. 24-28) in the Boston , Massachusetts area. It is a great experience which combines sharing the Thanksgiving holiday with an American family in their home, sightseeing at famous places of the Boston area (such as Harvard and MIT, Quincy Market, famous sites of the American Revolution, and the Plymouth Plantation re-creation of the early Pilgrims), and the opportunity to learn about the Christian faith through a guest speaker. This conference is sponsored by International Students Inc.(ISI), a nation-wide Christian organization which serves international students, scholars, and their families.

Our group from Penn State will leave from the lobby of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center (across Curtin Road from Pattee Library near the main CATA bus stop), on Wed., Nov. 24 at 9:00 AM. If you live far from campus, perhaps I can instead pick you up at your home at a designated time between 8:00 and 8:30 AM . (There are no classes that day due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.) Since it takes about 10 hours to drive to Boston , this will allow us to arrive in the early evening so that you can fully enjoy Thanksgiving Day (the next day) with your hosts. En route we will stop periodically for gasoline and to use the rest-rooms; you may choose to bring food along for lunch and supper en route or buy “fast food”. We will leave on Sunday morning at a similar time so as to arrive back in State College by 7 PM.

To register, print off the Conference Brochure with Registration Form from below, then complete the Registration Form on the Conference brochure, sign it, and return it to me with a check for the $80 Conference Fee, payable to "ISI". Please do this as early as possible, and no later than Friday, October 29 so we can make the necessary transportation arrangements for the group. This trip is limited to the first 30 people who register, so don’t delay in registering. We hope you can attend!

Your share of the transportation costs is an additional $75, payable to "Bill Saxton", also to be paid when you submit your Registration Form and Conference Fee. Thus, the TOTAL COST is estimated at $155, not including the cost of lunch and supper en route each way and any souvenirs you choose to buy. (Transportation costs for children age 18 and under is $50.)

What to bring: Please pack "light", and in small bags, as there is a very limited space for luggage in the vans. A bed, blankets, pillow, and towel will be provided for you, so you only need to bring clothes and personal items such as a toothbrush and shampoo.

Note: An important note about this trip: It is necessary that you speak some English in order to be able to communicate with your host family. Visiting parents or other relatives who do not speak English may join this trip if they are accompanied by their Penn State-affiliated family member who does speak English. Also, if they do not have Penn State University medical insurance, they should purchase health insurance.

I hope you can join this special experience! If you have questions, please call me at 865-1935 or 237-6304, email me at wjs9@psu.edu, or stop at my office (Room 210A in the Eisenhower Chapel).
